Nike hasn't always been considered a key player in the action sports industry, so when I began to hear the buzz on Nike 6.0 I began to get a little suspicious. It all started back at ASR in '07 when I saw a single small easy-up with a Nike display. I wasn't too surprised. Nike had been picking up a lot of momentum with their Nike Airs and great color schemes. I already knew Nike Owned both Hurley and Converse and I kinda assumed that was enough for them. But nope, in comes Nike 6.0.
Just so happens that Wednesday Group Y and Nike 6.0 held an industry night at Nike 6.0's Motel No-Tell in Huntington Beach, CA. I figured why not cure this skepticism and check it out. So my friend Thu and I made the journey to the surf capital and learned what Nike 6.0 was all about.
Turns out that they are doing some really amazing things. Nike 6.0 stands for the 6 action sports that Nike supports and sponsors (including freestyle skiing.) They had some amazing new products out for us to look at, all with bright colors meant for a youthful audience.
Also, Nike 6.0 and Hurley are heavily involved with Stoked Mentoring (an action sports non profit for at-risk youth.) Motel No-Tell has become an educational facility where kids get to learn design, film editing, photography, and many other skills most people don't learn till college.
The night was fun, the carney was tasty, and Nike 6.0 left me with one more company on my "amazing" list.
Of course they had some limited release shoes there. I went into the little shop to try and get myself a pair; sadly, they did not come in my bitty 5.5 size. I'm still hoping my feet will grow.
