Living in LA, all my Minnesota friends like to ask if I've met Paris Hilton and the likes (for the record, I have) and I always think its funny. It really is no big deal, they are people too. But.... I have gone into total "FAN" mode this week.
Pro Skiers > Movie Stars.
Warning: Name dropping and Claim about to happen.
This week started out with having dinner with Molly and Tyler Aguirre and friends at the Chart House. Yes, she is a pro snowboarder, but still completely amazing and nice and sweet and kills it in the park and everywhere else.
Then yesterday, I go skiing... my friend Em just got back (Em Lonsdale). So I'm skiing with her and she is helping me out with boxes and then Kaya Turski shows up. I felt soooo inadequate and excited and embarrassed for being so excited all at the same time. I could not believe that I was skiing with two top rated pro women skiers. So amazing. If either of you read this, yes I think you are amazing, and I am a fan of your work. Given Em is actually an awesome friend, but I still think it is amazing that I get the opportunity to ski with such amazing skiers. To top it off, Kaya's friend Mode (i hope that is her name, she says it with this amazing French Canadian Accent) is here as well. She is incredibly good at skiing as well. Then this lovely lady Kristy. Then Molly, Holly, and another girl that I didn't catch the name of.
Basically I am surrounded by incredibly amazing nice pro skiers which is only pushing me even more to become better. The last few years Mammoth has been pretty dry in the female world and now... I feel like there are as many girls killing it in the park as there are guys.
If there has ever been a time to move to Mammoth, this seems to be the year. The last 2 have been good, but the quality this year... I can hardly believe it. I ride the chair and see double fronts and 10's and backside 9's from almost every skier/snowboarder here.
To top it off, the forecast is saying we could potentially get 10 feet of snow next week... IN TOWN! that could mean 15 at the top of the mountain. Hopefully June will open up after that and I can have a full week of powder skiing the week after.
I love this town.
